Booth traffic and badge scans are easy to collect, they rise with activity regardless of quality, and they have no demonstrated relationship to revenue. A badge scan records a hand movement at a scanner. In a worked example, a show produced 1,100 scanned badges and 34 conversations that met a real qualification bar, and 1,085 of those scans contributed a single opportunity between them. Reporting the large number makes a show look successful and prevents anyone from asking whether the conversations were worth the cost.
