A two-tier distribution model is one where the manufacturer sells to distributors, who then sell to dealers or end customers. It adds reach and financing but also adds distance between the manufacturer and the buyer. Every added tier increases market reach and decreases the manufacturer’s visibility into the end relationship, which is the core trade-off a channel strategy has to manage.
