A system records what a company knows about a customer so that knowledge survives turnover. Writing down that a buyer cares more about lead times than price, or that their budgeting happens in September, is a company remembering a customer institutionally. The genuine risk runs the other way: when relationship knowledge lives only in one person’s head, their departure means a twenty-year partner gets treated like a stranger.
