The starting point is the component’s Failure Developing Period (FDP), the time between when a developing failure becomes detectable and when it actually breaks down. A common rule of thumb is to inspect at about half the FDP, so a component with a one-month FDP gets inspected roughly every two weeks. The actual number should get refined over time using the plant’s own failure history.
